Amara House

Amara House sits on a quiet street in Lisbon’s Estrela district, in a nineteenth-century townhouse whose proportions had been quietly eroded by decades of partition walls and low-grade renovation. Our brief was to give the rooms back their scale — to let the original ceiling heights, deep window reveals, and honeyed pine floors carry the interior, rather than compete with it.

We stripped each room to its shell and rebuilt with a restrained material palette: limewashed walls, travertine in the wet rooms, and a warm oak joinery language that repeats from the kitchen through to the built-in wardrobes upstairs. Furniture was chosen for longevity over trend — a handful of considered pieces per room, with generous space left around them.
